W.B. Raner passed away.

W.B. Raner was born in West Virginia, April 7, 1847, and died in Des Moines, Iowa, May 2, 1926, aged 79 years and 25 days.

When a young man he moved from Virginia to Pennslvania and there met and married Catherine Ann Davis over 50 years ago To this union were born 12 children, five sons and seven daughters. Those living are John, George and William, Mrs. Etta Chambers and Mrs. Tabitha Meyers of Des Moines, Mrs. Elizabeth Holden of Frederic and Mrs. Martha Benson of Albia. He is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Mr. Raner came to Iowa some fifty years ago. He was a blacksmith by trade and worked at his trade mostly in the mining districts and lived at Hynes, Rex and various other camps before moving to Des Moines six years ago. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the United Mine Workers oof America. He was a hard working man and bore the respect of his fellow workmen. His wife preceded him in death some 12 years.

His body was brought back from Des Moines and his funeral service was held from the Cuba Christian Church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday May 4, Rev. B.W. Pettit conducting the services. A large company of old friends and neighbors attended the services. Ten automobiles accompanied the body from Albia to the Cuba Church. Some beautiful Flora pieces were contributed by the friends. His body was lowered to its last rest beside the body of his wife who preceded him 12 years.
