Old Settler Dies In Minneapolis Friday
Mrs. Mary O'Toole Came To Waseca County in 1867
Mrs. Mary O'Toole, one of the oldest settlers in Waseca County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Larkin, 2545 Harriet Avenue, Minneapolis, last Friday, December 21st, following only a brief illness. The cause of her death was complications following pneumonia.
Mary Kelly was born August 13, 1847, in Sunderland, England, where she spent the greater part of her girlhood. In 1863 she was united in marriage to Martin O'Toole at Sunderland. In 1865 she came to this country with her husband and they settled at Columbus, Wis., where they lived for two years. Mr. and Mrs. O'Toole then came to Waseca County and resided in this county until 1918 when she went to Minneapolis.
Mrs. O'Toole was the mother of eleven children, three preceding her in death. Four sons and four daughters survive. They are John H. of Minneapolis, Martin J. of Janesville, Edward J. of San Antonio, Texas, Wm. C. of White Earth, N. D., Mrs. J. D. Larkin of Minneapolis, Mrs. Chas. McMillan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. F. H. Burke of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. E. J. Walters of Minneapolis. All the children attended the funeral except Edward J. of San Antonio, Texas, who was unable to get here on account of illness. She is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The body was brought to Janesville Sunday evening and taken to the home of her son, Matt O'Toole. Funeral services were held Monday morning, Dec. 24th, at nine o'clock at St. Ann's church in Janesville with Rev. Father John Parkinson officiating at a requiem high mass. Her remains were laid to rest in St. Ann's cemetery.
The pallbearers were John Murphy, Matt Keeley, W. R. Cahill, John Barden, James McBride and Simon Connelly. Out of town relatives besides the immediate family who attended were Mr. and Mrs. John Pardee of Minneapolis and Mrs. Thomas Hogan of Minneapolis.
