Dorothy (Gleason-Tibbles) McIntosh was born on October 3, 1927 in LaHarpe, Illinois. Her parents were Jessie Velma (Lincoln) and Nelson F. Gleason.
After graduating from high school, she went to Washington D.C. to work in civil service as a stenographer at the Pentagon in the Decorations and Awards Department.
It was in D.C. that she met her husband-to-be, Walter Boyd Tibbles. He was stationed there in the Army military police. They were married in St. Joseph, Missouri on March 11, 1947.
They lived on a farm their first year. Dorothy was then a legal secretary in Kirksville while her husband attended Teacher's College there and received his BS Degree in 1951.
Dorothy was a secretary to the head of the shoe department at Harzfeld's in Kansas City for a year before they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she was secretary in the Transit Tower.
After a year, she and Mr. Tibbles moved back to Missouri. He farmed near Chillicothe and Dorothy was bookkeeper at the M.F.A. Exchange. Their son, Stan Boyd Tibbles, was born December 3, 1956, while they lived in Chillicothe.
After about eight years, they moved to Goodland, Kansas for a year. Dorothy worked in civil service as a secretary in an employment office.
Then back to Missouri where she was secretary and bookkeeper for twelve years at Jameson R-3 School. During several of those years, she was a Den Mother for a Cub Scout Troop. Also, she taught an adult Sunday School class at Jameson First Christian Church.
Mr. Tibbles passed in 1974 and Dorothy moved into town with her son. After her son, Stan, graduated from high school and entered Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, she moved to Gallatin where she bought a home and worked at First National Bank as secretary to the bank president and other duties.
In June, 1980, mutual friends introduced her to Bob McIntosh, Harrison County Clerk. They were wed November 15, 1980 and enjoyed five happy years in Bethany until Bob died of cancer in November, 1985.
Dorothy loved her family and had many joyous times with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved Bethany, its people and her church family. She was an active member of the First Christian Church and was financial secretary for twenty-one years. She also was president of the Northwest Area C.W.F. for two years.
She was a coordinator and drive for "Road to Recover" for fifteen years.
In 1993, she was a case worker for the Red Cross during the floods in Pattonsburg.
Her son, Stan, married Judy Croy on June 10, 1978, after both graduated from college. Two children were born to this union, Stacy Michelle and Jason Walter Tibbles.
Jason married Holly Darby in Bethany, MO on September 1, 2006, and four children were born: Izabella Grace on October 16, 2009, Tate Henry on July 10, 2012, Darby Wade on February 21, 2016 and Maclyn Sue on November 17, 2018.
Stacy married Ryan Jenkins on November 14, 2009 and now live in Gladstone, Missouri. They have two daughters, Eva Me born on September 24, 2012 and Madelyn Eileen born on January 6, 2015.
Dorothy was a member of Echo Club before it disbanded several years ago. She was an active member of Christian Women's Fellowship, First Christian Church, Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and held offices in "Hook and Eye" Club.
