Daniel P. Bierman, 86, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013; born in Halworth, New Jersey.

He attended Greenbrier Military School and Brown University, enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII and was recalled for the Korean War as a "white hat" in OP-20-G at Sup.Rad, Adak, Alaska.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years and their four children, Daniel P. Bierman Jr., Korrinne Lindhardt, Dianna Crocker and Brock D. Bierman, along with 7 grandchildren.

After almost 40 years with Sears Roebuck, he retired to Amelia Island, FL. His many volunteer activities and involvement in the community, over the past 50 years, encompassed many numerous groups, associations and organizations. Past VP of the Middletown, Conn. and Newport, RI Chamber of Commerce; VP of the Middletown, Conn. Exchange Club and VP of the Newport, RI Lions Club. Past member of the Rotary Club, Turks Head Club and American Legion. Past Chairman of Naval Affairs Council for Newport, Rhode Island; member of the Naval War College Foundation; liaison with Foreign Officers at the Naval War College and Newport community. Also, was on the Committee for the State of RI Military Affairs. Served as Membership Committee person for the Rhode Island and Nassau County, Florida Boy Scouts and in 1953 started the Junior Achievement Organization in Springfield, Mass. Member and Officer of the Varnum Continentals, East Greenwich, RI. Joined the Navy League in 1964, Past President of the Navy League, Jacksonville Beaches - Mayport Florida Council; North Florida & Florida State President & National Director Navy League of the United States. Received in 1994 Meritorious Council Award as president of the council; in 2000 received the Navy League Presidential Exemplary Service Award. Chairman of the USS Carney DDG 64 Commissioning, board member of the commissioning of the USS Roosevelt DDG 80. 20-year member of the FSBPA, Florida State and Beach Preservation Association, in 1993 received Meritorious Council Award for the Jacksonville Beaches-Mayport Council and in 1995 awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Shores and Beaches Association. Board member and Officer of the RC & D Floridian Resources Conservation District Committee, also Emeritus. Former Supervisor of the Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District. Chairman of the Dunes and Shores Committee of the Association and Secretary of the South Amelia Island Shore Stabilization Association. Former President of the Amelia Island Plantation Community Association, and also former President of the Pelican Club, and past President of the Amelia Island, Ocean Club. Poll Worker, 10 years for Nassau County.

Interment will be in the columbarium at the Amelia Plantation Chapel at a later date. Donations may be made to the Mayport Navy League or Amelia Plantation Chapel.
