Melvin was born on March 4, 1922 in Pine River, Minnesota, the son of Melvin Henry Gehweier and Eva Lela Gregory. He was adopted when he was nine years old by Alfred Anderson.
He married Rhea Blanche Judd on Jan. 26, 1943 in Burley. Two days after their marriage, Melvin left to serve in the United States Army. At the end of the war, they made their home in Burley. In 1945, they were blessed with their only son, Marty.
Melvin worked for Challenge Dairy until its closure. He then worked as a custodian for the Cassia School District at the Overland Elementary School where he retired in 1983.
He enjoyed fishing with anyone who would go fishing with him. He also enjoyed his yard and gardening. He could grow everything and anything.
Melvin is survived by his son, Marty (Pam) Anderson, of Burley; his granddaughter, Meggan Anderson, of Burley; and two sisters, Laura May Lyda, of Boise, and Ramona Baker, of Spokane Valley, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rhea; one sister, Marie Lyda; and a brother, Al Anderson.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where friends and family may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Monday. Officiating will be Michael James. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.
