Ensign Adams was the pilot of a F4U Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 74, aboard the aircraft carrier BON HOMME RICHARD (CVA-31). On August 14, 1952, while on a strike mission in North Korea, his aircraft made a dive from 8,000 feet toward the target but failed to pull out of the dive, crashed and exploded.
