James G. (Jay) Begley, 71,735 Howard St., died at 6 a.m. Saturday [11/10/1973] at Holston Valley Community Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Scott County, Va., he had been a resident of Kingsport since 1940. He was employed in the Acetate Yarn Division of Tennessee Eastman Company for 20 years before retiring seven years ago. He was a member of Howard Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lina Dillon Begley, daughters, Mrs. Edd (Ann) Hurst of Kingsport and Mrs. Charles (Muriel) Crofoot, Rodes, Calif.; sons, Keith, Don and H. C. Begley, all of Kingsport, and Ron Begley, Rockville, Md.; sister, Mrs. Sarah Dillon, Kingsport; brothers, Ballard and Luther Begley, both of Kingsport; Henry, Eidson, Tenn., and Gilmer Begley, Clinchport, Va.; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for James G. (Jay) Begley will be conducted at 2 p. m. Monday at Howard Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. R. C. Hammonds and Rev. Carson Barnette officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home until one hour before the services, when it will be taken to the church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class at the church. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in charge.
