Polly Dyer Celebrates 96th Birthday

According to an account on pages 175-176 in "Our Union County Heritage Vol II, compiled by Kathleen George Graves and Winnie Palmer McDonald, Mary or Aunt Polly Dyer, who was born and raised in Union County, observed her 96th birthday on December 8, 1922. At that time she had four living children, 28 grandchildren, 87 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She married her husband, William Dyer, at 19 years of age. She lived in Union County all her days except a year at the close of the Civil War, when she and her husband and six children moved to Indiana. William died soon after their return to Tennessee in 1866.

Her living children in 1922 were: Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Dyer Ferguson DeVault, Mrs. Augusta Lavinia Tolliver, and Mrs. Caldonia Paralee Sharp of Luttrell; Andrew Dyer of Stella, Missouri; Aunt Polly lived with her youngest daughter Mrs. John B. Sharp.
