Alfonso José Maestas, age 89, was born on March 14, 1924 in Monero, New Mexico and passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Northland Hospice Olivia Whitehouse in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Antonio Maestas, mother, Francisquita (Martínez) Maestas, brother, Ivan Maestas, sisters, Neomi Dimas and Genara Jarmillo.
Alfonso is survived by his children, Mike (Susan), Barbara (Larry Battest), Dianne (Joe), Sherry (Donna Akers) and Gino (Rachael), his sisters, Ernestina, Mary Jane, Eremita and Rose (Pres), and brother, Tony (Rachel), 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Early in his life Joe owned and operated a ranch in New Mexico. Joe moved his family to Flagstaff, Arizona in the early 1950s to work at the Navajo Army Depot in Bellmont, Arizona. Joe later worked for the Flagstaff Public School District and retired as the Sole Proprietor of Maestas Maintenance and Janitorial.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 301 S. Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo, NM, on October 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Bernalillo Cemetery where he will be interred with his mother, Francisquita.
