Son of Solomon and Mary (Hamilton) Jones. Husband of Mary Jane (Reagan) Jones.

Hicks Jones was born January 16, 1841 and died August 3rd, 1922 - Age 81 years and six months. He was born in Henderson County, N.C, moved to Greenville County, South Carolina early boyhood. He had military training before the civil war, and enlisted in the 16th North Carolina Regiment under Captain Joe Hamilton, his uncle.
He taught school a number of years in Greenville County, S.C. and at the age of 27 married Miss Jane Reagan, also of Greenville County. To this union were born two sons, William P. Jones (deceased) and J. Trammell Jones, living near Mount Hebron, and one daughter, Mrs. H. B. Hawkins of Shaws Creek.
He has 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Hicks Jones was the son of Solomon Jones, "The Road Builder". He built up Mount Hebron and Indian Cave Park. Principally built the road to Hendersonville, now used as a public road. He also gave the land on which Mount Hebron school house and "Jones Gap Church" stand.
Jones Gap Church was built by Captain M. F. and C. F. Toms.
Hicks Jones joined the Baptist Church in early life and was an active deacon for more than 20 years. He was a man given to hospitality and upright living, paying all his debts before he died and leaving his widow in good circumstances. He joined the Temperance Union in his youth; never used tobacco or intoxicants. Never called a physician in his life until a few months before his death, while his father Solomon Jones lived 97 years and never called a physician during his life.
Hicks Jones' home was the home of the ministers when they were in the community. He was one of a large family. Had ten sisters and one brother, only four sisters survive him.
After selling Indian Cave Park he moved to a little farm nearby and lived there until his death. He was buried in Shaws Creek (Baptist Church) cemetery, Rev. J. L. Brookshire officiating.
