1928 - 2013Achauer, Charles Woodrow (Woody) Memorial services for Charles Woodrow "Woody" Achauer, age 84 of Hideaway, will be held on Wednesday, October, 16, at 10:00AM at First Presbyterian Church of Tyler. Mr. Achauer was born on November 1, 1928 in Logan, Ohio the son of the late Charles and Vera Achauer. Woody graduated from Logan High School and received a BS in Geology from The College of Wooster. He then served in the US Army in Heidelberg, Germany for 2 years. After leaving the army he moved to Montana and received a Masters of Science in Geology. He was hired by Atlantic Refining Co and worked in Casper, WY where he met a girl from Mississippi and married her. Their first child was born there and then he was transferred to Dallas, TX where he worked for ARCO for 35 years. He and Pat were active members of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas for 30 years. Woody served as a deacon and an elder. He taught Sunday school, served as a representative to a church in west Dallas and was on the founding committee of The Stewpot. In 1992 they retired and moved to Hideaway Lake where they joined First Presbyterian Church of Tyler. For 15 years Woody joined in the efforts to help maintain Camp Gilmont. Woody, who was an only child, is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Achauer of Hideaway; his 4 children, Ann Claunch of Fairhope, AL, Chuck Achauer of Wills Point, TX, Susan Amick of Dallas, TX, Bill Achauer of Singapore, and 3 granddaughters, Maggie Claunch, Anna Grace Claunch, Beth Claunch of Fairhope, AL.
