A long time Troy resident, Ruthford William Erickson, 83. died at this home.
Although in failing health the past year. Erickson assisted with his son's grocery store every day and had locked up Tuesday at the close of business.
An active man, Erickson had worked at the Troy Fire Brick Co., as a clay contractor, retiring at age 65. "But he never really retired." commented his daughter, Eldoris Hunter.
Erickson was a member of the Troy Fire Department, a 16 year veteran of the Troy City Council and a member of the VFW. He also was a member of the Troy Lutheran Church.
Hunter's Department Store and Erickson's Foods opened about the time of Erickso's retirement and he plunged into the business with his son and son-in-law. He always assisted with the preparation of potatis korf, the Swedish sausage made especially for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Erickson was born at Ardock, N.D. Jan 18, 1894, to John and Caroline Erickson. The family returned to Sweden when he was very young and came back to settle in Troy when he was about 12 years old. A trace of Sweden was discernible in Erickson's speech.
He was a veteran of World War I and served in England and France with the 248th Aero Squad. he was married to Etta Olson of Troy, July 22, 1922. She survives at the Troy home.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Hunter, and a son, ernest: a brother, Adolph and a sister, Ruth Johnson, all of Troy; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
