Salt Lake Tribune, published July 17,1970. Former Utah Draft Chief, Henry Rich, Dies at 82. Henry Arnold Rich, 82, 1026 Douglas St., former director of the Utah Selective Service, died Thursday in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes. Mr. Rich headed the Selective Service from 1939 to 1948. He served for many years in the Utah National Guard, retiring as a Colonel. As an attorney and former congressional secretary to the late Senator George Sutherland, he was associated with Badger, Rich and Rich and later Rich, Elton and Mangum law offices. He was a member of the Alta Club, American Legion and Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Rich was past president of the University of Utah Emeritus Club, and an honorary member of the Disabled American Veterans. At the time of his death he was director of Skaggs Drug Centers, Inc., and the Utah Motor Park, Inc. Mr. Rich attended the George Washington University, University of Utah and Georgetown University where he received a doctorate of law. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he filled a Swiss-German mission from 1909-1912. He was born Feb. 28, 1888, in Ogden, a son of Fred C. and Emma Arnold Rich. He married Mary Summerhays Oct 1, 1913, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Surviving are his widow, one son and three daughters. H. Arnold Jr., Salt Lake City, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Myers, Monterey Park, Calif. Mrs. Chester (Marjorie) Smith, Torrance, Calif. Mrs. Thomas (Jeans) Gilligan, San Francisco. 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, Charles. C., Ben C., Mrs. Harris (Afton) Birkinshaw, all Salt Lake City, Mrs. Raymond (Emma) Bingham, Weston, Idaho, Mrs. James (Bess) Smith, Hartford, Conn. Funeral services will be Saturday at 3:45 pm at 260 E. South Temple, where friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 pm and Saturday one hour prior to services. Graveside services and burial will be conducted at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park by the Utah National Guard.
