Mrs. J. W. Lee Buried Friday by Mate Who Died 52 Years Ago.


The body of Mrs. J. W. Lee, a former Edina resident and the widow of Dr. J. W. Lee, who died Monday morning of last week at Lamar, Colo., arrived at Baring Friday afternoon, from where it was taken immediately to the Linville cemetery at Edina for committal at 3 o'clock by the Rev. S. E. Botsford. Mrs. Lee was 87 years old. Death was at the home of Mrs. Zoa Lee Merrill, a daughter, and the body was accompanied here by another daughter, Mrs. Maud Lee Stewart, of Denver, Colo. Burial was beside the grave of Mrs. Lee's husband, Dr. John W. Lee, a physician, who died here fifty two years ago.

Besides the daughter mentioned Mrs. Lee is survived by another daughter and a son: Mrs. Susannah Lee Johnston of Nevada and Charles E. Lee of California. And at the time of death was survived by still another daughter, Mrs. Eva Lee Merrill, of Lamar, who died Friday morning while the body of the mother was on the way to Edina. A son, Frank Lee, of Hayden Lake, Idaho, died in March, 1930. Another son, Fred, died in infancy.

Four grandchildren and a great-grandson also survive: Helen and Margaret Merrill, New York City; Richard Lee Merrill, Rico, Colo.; George Will Merrill, Lamar; as well as a sister, Mrs. Rastoria Anderson, of Kirksville and a half sister, Mrs. Kate Wamsley Sheets, of Pomona, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Eliza J. Crawford, of Kirksville and a half-sister, Anna Woodworth Anderson, died a few years ago.

As Nancy Ellen Crawford, the third child of William Grimes and Susannah Beaty Crawford, Mrs. Lee was born Sept. 24, 1841, at Green Bay Bottom, Lee County, Iowa. She came to Knox County with her family and was married Dec. 22, 1859, at the home near Edina of her mother and her step-father, T. O. Wamsley, to Dr. Lee. To Dr. and Mrs. Lee were born the children named.
