In this city, on Saturday morning, April 10th, 1886, Mrs. Elizabeth Alton, wife of Mr. Thomas Alton; aged 65 years. Deceased died very suddenly, being seemingly in usual good health on Saturday morning, when she was seized with appoplexy, from which she never recovered. She came to this country from England in 1845, and resided in Lafayette county a number of years, and thence removed to Mifflin in this county, and lived there until about five years ago, when they removed to this city.
She was a good Christian woman, a devoted wife and a loving mother. An aged and devoted husband and five sons and five daughters survive her. Her sons and daughters have grown up and reside in different parts of the country; but nearly all of them were present at the funeral which was held from the M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon. A wide circle of friends extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. (Iowa County Democrat 16 Apr 1886)
