George Lensie Newton, passed peacefully at his home in Ceres, California on October 7, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Los Angeles, California to George and Myrtle Newton on May 16, 1937.

His family moved to Stanislaus County in 1945. At the young age of seventeen, George joined the U.S Navy and after serving three years he settled in Modesto, California, where he met and married Ruby, his late wife of 51 years.

After retiring from Tri Valley Container Division, he enjoyed traveling in his RV, playing golf and spending time with his family.

George is survived by his daughter, Brenda Tackett of Ceres; son, Ricky Newton of Ceres; two grandchildren, Steven Tackett and Kellie Tackett; three great grandchildren, Austin, Lacey and Acen; girlfriend, Geneva Vaughn; sister, Vicky (Nomie) Knoepfel (John); brothers, Jonny Newton (Brenda), Jimmy Newton and Bobby Newton (Connie).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, his parents, George and Myrtle Newton, sister, Christine Allen, brothers, Cecil Newton and Richard Newton.

Special thanks to his sister-in-law, Brenda Newton.

Visitation is Monday, October 14, 2013, 4-8pm at Salas Brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Drive, Modesto, California at 1:00pm Tuesday, October 15, 2013, followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, Hughson, California.
