Howard Weinhart played semipro baseball for the New York Westerners. He was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed the study of New Jersey history. He worked as an electrical engineer in Bell Labs, Murray Hill, NJ, holding several patents, including early television and trans-Atlantic telephone communications. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was friends with the Nobel Prize winners who invented the transistor (William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain). His ancestor in Elizabethtown was acquainted with George Washington (he invited George to his wedding and he showed me his years-old framed wedding invitation), hence the middle name of "Washington."
