Suddenly stricken while playing with a dance orchestra at the Rex Club, Clarence Zahnow, 49, well known Streator musician and employed as a meat cutter at the A & P Supermarket in this city, died almost instantly at 11:45 o'clock last night, the victim of a heart affliction.

Although a sufferer with heart trouble, he was in apparently good health last night, and filling his role as a drummer with the orchestra at the roadside tavern when he suddenly slumped in his chair. He was dead when a physician examined him a short while later.

He is survived by his wife, formerly Rose Leonard, to whom he was married November 22, 1918, and daughter: Mrs. George Aschinger, whose husband is an aviation cadet stationed at San Angelo, Texas. He also leaves two brothers: Charles Zahnow of East St. Louis and Walter Zahnow of Waterloo, IL.

The son of Charles and Minnie Zahnow, he was born in the year 1894 at Altamont, IL. He came to Streator in 1917 and had since been a resident of this city.

He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the army during his time in the service. He was also affiliated with the American Legion, and was a member of the Musicians Local of this city, serving as secretary-treasurer.

For the past ten years or more, he was employed as a meat cutter at the A & P Supermarket. During the evening he played as a member of the orchestra at the Rex Club.
