Corporal Apodaca was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously Wounded in Action in North Korea on November 30, 1950 and returned to duty on January 3, 1951. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 14, 1951. He died as a prisoner on March 31, 1951. His remains were not recovered.
