According to his son Franklin's obituary record of Yale graduates, Augustus was a broker in New York City and was a adjutant general of Wisconsin during the War Between the States.

AUGUST GAYLORD, A NATIVE OF TORRINGFORD.
New York, March 31. — Augustus Gaylord died yesterday at his home at No. 117 West Fifty-eighth street. He was in his seventy-sixth year. He was born in Torringford, near Torrington, Conn. on February 7, 1826. He came to this city when twenty-one years old to become identified with some manufacturing concerns. Owing to ill-health he went to Wisconsin in 1856, and there he remained for some years. He was adjutant general of the military department of the state of Wisconsin from 1862 to 1866, and while fulfilling his duties of his rank he served under four different governors of Wisconsin. After leaving Wisconsin he returned to this city, and in 1872 he again became connected with manufacturing enterprises here. He was commissioner of the Ammunition Manufacturers' association until his retirement from active life three years ago.

Mr. Gaylord was married in 1850 to Martha Champlin of Rhinebeck. They celebrated the golden anniversary of their marriage on October 8, 1900. A widow and two sons, Franklin Gaylord of St. Petersburg, Russia and Irving C. Gaylord, cashier of the Fourteenth Street bank, survive him.

Mr. Gaylord was a member of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion and the New England Society. He was a deacon of the Broadway Tabernacle. The funeral will be held at the Broadway Tabernacle at 11 o'clock a.m. on Tuesday. The buried will be in Torrington, Conn.
