John Allec Bennett, 77, of Terrell, passed away on October 5, in Mesquite. He was born on October 6, 1935 to John A. Bennett and Dessie (Younglove) Bennett in Cottonwood, Texas, where he grew up. He served as sergeant in the US Army in Germany. He married Bobbie and they had two daughters. He graduated from the Dallas Police Academy in 1958 and continued to serve Dallas as a Peace Officer until he retired. He fell in love with Elmo and bought his first farm there in 1964. He enjoyed working with his cows, horses, peafowl and emus. He was proud of his tractors and drove his great-grandchildren around. John loved working and spending time with his family.

Mr. Bennett is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Bobbie Bennett and sisters Patsy Miller and Louise Baker. Those left to celebrate his life his wife Velma (Yow) Bennett of Terrell; children Caprice Bennett of Dallas, and Kimberly Bennett Taylor and husband Walter of Sunnyvale; grandchildren Captain David Lynn Boyd, and wife Joanna Boyd of Fort Sill, OK, Tommy Bain, Jr. of Dallas; Justin Boyd and wife Kasey of Forney; John Bennett Boyd and wife Erica of Coppers Cove; Steven Rudd of Dover, AR; Daniel Boyd and wife Katherine of Carrollton; step son Russell Ward and wife Tammi of Elmo; and sister Rosalie Yow. He is also survived by three step grandchildren Lori, Connie and Austin; 14 great grandchildren, and many other relatives who will all miss him greatly.

Family will have visitation on Friday Evening from 6-8 pm and funeral services at 1:00pm at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Terrell.
