Knox City Widow Died Last Thursday Night; Funeral Services Here Sunday
Mrs. Rachel Ellen Browning of Knox City, widow of Earl F. Browning, died at 11:50 o'clock Thursday night, July 25, 1968, at the Adair County Nursing Home in Kirksville. She was 83 years old and had been a resident there since February of this year.
Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Hickman of Edina officiating. Burial was in the Knox City Cemetery.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Cecil Kenoyer and O. O. Reynolds of Rutledge and Kenneth McMillen of Edina, as well as others in Colorado, California and Washington. David Browning of Knox City is a brother-in-law.
As Rachel Ellen McMillen, Mrs. Browning was born Aug. 7, 1884, in Knox County, a daughter of Charles Jesse and Marie E. Cunningham McMillen. She was married Dec. 31, 1912, to Mr. Browning at Knox City and he preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1963. They resided on a farm north of Knox City until 1940, at which time they moved into town where they observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Dec. 30, 1962, three days prior to his death. Mrs. Browning was a member of the Knox City Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Julius and Wilfred McMillen, and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Reynolds and Mrs. Arkie Wolters.
