Vivian (Trimble) Hulse, the eldest daughter of Elmer and Mabel (Matthews) Trimble, was born at Westhope ND on August 14, 1915. She grew up on the family farm and attended Westhope Public School; graduating in 1933.

Vivian worked as a cook with a threshing crew for several years and on June 30, 1943, she married Darrell Hulse. They farmed in the Westhope community until their retirement in 1978.

Vivian was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association, Rebekah Lodge, Westhope Garden Club, was a member of the Bottineau County Library Board, and secretary of the Bottineau County Farmers Union for 18 yrs. She possessed a love for cooking; her homemade candy, especially fudge; which was her specialty. She received countless ribbons at county and state fairs. Vivian had a real passion for flowers; gladiolas were her favorite. She was a perennial prize winner at area flower shows.

Darrell and Vivian were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Westhope. They centered alot of their attention on their political activism with the North Dakota Democratic party.

Darrell and Vivian had 3 children: Dean, and two daughters who died at birth.
