STAUNTON:

Tsgt. James Russell Bodkin, 77, husband of Alice Jane (Houston) Bodkin of 1830 Springhill Road, departed his life Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Bodkin was born October 21, 1935 in Staunton, a son of the late George P. and Helen (Dameron) Bodkin.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bodkin was preceded in death by two half-brothers and a half- sister.
Russ graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1954 and joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 20 years. Mr. Bodkin was a charter member of Western Augusta Steam and Gas, a life-time member of the Blue Ridge Antique Club, a member of the Staunton-Augusta VFW Post 2216 and the American Legion. He enjoyed attending auction sales and knife shows, where he made a lot of friends. Russ enjoyed spending time with his son and grandson at tractor pulling contests. Following his military career, Mr. Bodkin was employed with Sensabaugh Body Shop, Homestead Material Handling, the Staunton News Leader and the Waynesboro Nursery.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 36 years, is a son, James E. "Jamie" Bodkin and his wife Wanda of Churchville and three grandchildren, Stephanie, Dakota and Destiny Bodkin.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Merle Dodson and Rev. William H. Garber.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, his residence or the home of his son and daughter-in-law at 788 Union Church Road, Churchville.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens with military rights conducted by the Staunton – Augusta VFW Post 2216.
Active pallbearers will be William Huffman, John Bodkin, Mike Flint, Benjamin Yoder, Mark Craig and Shawn Callahan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Norman "Doodle" Sensabaugh, Jerry Cook, Benji Johnson, Jackie Bodkin and John Hunter.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Blue Ridge Antique Club, C/O Douglas Lam, 355 Bunker Hill Road, Mt. Solon, VA 22843.
