COWARDIN, Margaret J. "Peggy", 97, of Largo, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Suncoast Hospice Care Center, MidPinellas. She was born on April 27, 1916 in Kilburn, England to the late Thomas F. & Jessie L. (Gardner) Figg. She & her late husband Charles Cowardin moved to this area in 1982 coming from Laurel, MD. Peggy was a life member of National Military Officers of America Association (MOAA), an Auxiliary Me-mber of the St. Petersburg Area MOAA Chapter, an Auxiliary Member of the Clearwater MOAA Chapter, a member of Chapter 28 (Clearwater) Society of Military Widows, and a member of the Military Officers' Wives' Club of St. Petersburg. She was the Liaison for "Operation Warmheart" collecting monetary donations to be used for needy military at MacDill AFB. Peggy did this as a Board Member of the then Retired Officers' Wives' Club of St. Petersburg (now Military Officers' Wives' Club.) While living in the D.C. area she was an "Arlington Lady" volunteering at funerals at the Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be offered to the SPCA, 9099 130th Avenue North, Largo, FL 33773-1403. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 11th, 11 am, at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL 33774. Burial will take place in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, next to her loving husband Charles.
