FRITCH - A.D. "Al" DeShields, 82, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Winters, pastor, officiating. Burial with Masonic rites by Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Al was born March 10, 1925, in Bearden, Okla., and had been a Fritch resident since 1946. He married Ruby Kelly on May 11, 1948, in Okemah, Okla. He was a supervisor for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 39 years and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch and the Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge. He was a fireman in the Civil Service during World War II at several air bases.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby DeShields; two sons, Gary DeShields and wife Sue of Fritch and Ray DeShields and wife Jenny of Borger; a daughter, Gere' Jester and husband Gale of Fritch; two brothers, H.W. "Tubby" DeShields of Amarillo and Jack DeShields of Cromwell, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Steve Schroeder, Aaron Mesneak, Derek Davis, Roy Talley, Burl Teague and Arthur Waite. Honorary casket bearer will be Skyler Aynes.
The family suggests memorials be to building fund, First Southern Baptist Church, P.O. Box 358, Fritch, TX 79036.
