"Charles B. Gardner was born in Otego, January 26, 1841, the son of Erastus and Eliza (Shove) Gardner and died at Mt. Vision April 8, 1915. For some time he has been suffering with cancer in the stomach. For the past eight weeks his sufferings have been intense. He had been confined to his bed that length of time. When about fifteen years of age, he with his people, moved to Mt. Vision. When he was twenty-one he went to live with his uncle, Stephen Wing, in Morris. In 1868, he married Ulissie Miller of Laurens. Thirty-four years ago they moved to Mt. Vision where they have since resided. To them were born five daughters, two dying in infancy. The others, Mrs. Alonzo Smith, Hartwick; Mrs. Arthur Hoose and Mrs. John Peet of Mt. Vision, mourn for a loving and indulgent father, the wife a most devoted husband. He is also survived by two brothers, Edward, of Otego and Harvey, of Dansville. Mr. Gardner was a man respected by all who knew him. He served some time as justice of the peace. When sixteen years old he joined the Methodist church and had been a faithful attendant. He will be missed in the home, the church and community.---Our Mt. Vision Reporter."
