She was married twice, with her first husband James Hannon dying prior to the 1861 Canadian census. At the time of this census, Catharine a widow and her young son (Samuel T Hannon) were living with her parents and nine siblings in Barton township Wentworth Co, Ontario. She married David Garrison on 28 Sep 1862 in Caistor Twp, Lincoln co.
David & Kate farmed in Caistor Twp until the 1890s, when they picked up and moved to a homestead in what would eventually become Rollette County in North Dakota. Their daughter Sarah Jane Robinson and her family were living just across the Canadian border on a homestead six miles south of Cartwright Manitoba. Two sons John and William also moved to farm in Rollette County in the early 1890s. Kate's son Samuel T Hannon and his extended family joined them in the early 1900s.
In 1911, David and Kate set out on another farming adventure, taking out a homestead near the Great Sand Hills in southwest Saskatchewan. The area would eventually be known as Bestville. Three of David and Kate's grandchildren (Sarah Jane Robinson's children) also filed for homesteads adjacent to David and Kate's in the Bestville area. Their son William and his family joined them a few years later.
