Laura R. Swords, 89, of Peoria, formerly of Hanna City, died at 7:14 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born April 24, 1924, in Cheyenne, Wyo., to Daniel and Cora (Graebast) David. She married Harold "Les" Swords on March 17, 1945, in Peoria. He died April 21, 2000, in Peoria.

She also was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters.

Laura is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Stejskal of Hanna City and Dianna Meyer of East Peoria; son, George (Marcia) Swords of Hanna City; stepdaughter, Jean (Ron) Shannon of Peoria; sister-in-law, Elvira David of Fort Collins, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Bethel Free Methodist Church in Peoria, where she taught Sunday school for more than 40 years, served as a Stewardess and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a past member of Hanna City T.O.P.S.

Laura was a devout wife and wonderful Christian mother who raised her children God's way.

Interment will take place in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
