Mildred Benzel, daughter of Theodore and Emma (Jahnke) Benzel was born on March 12, 1914. She graduated from Oakes High School with the class of 1931, and then earned her teaching certificate. Mildred was united in marriage to James McGraw on June 11, 1936 at Breckenridge, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Cogswell, North Dakota. Mr. McGraw died on February 3, 1984, and Mildred later moved to Oakes. In 1999, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society Oakes.

Mildred had been a longtime member of the Cogswell Church of Christ before it closed. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother, and loved taking care of children. Mildred loved cooking and baking, and always had cookies baked when anyone would come for a visit. She will also be remembered for her delicious apple pies with the homemade crust which she enjoyed baking.

Mildred is survived by two daughters, Maureen Nielsen, Arden Hills, MN and Aleta Volk, Webster, FL; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Dorothy Baldwin and Mabel Bergman, and a brother, Benjamin Benzel.
