Jack Allison, 92, of Amarillo died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Mr. Allison was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Gainesville to E.B. and Mary McKee Allison. The family moved to Temple, where he joined First Presbyterian Church.

They later moved to Dallas and Oklahoma City. Mr. Allison graduated from Oklahoma City Central High in 1932. In 1929, he participated in the Junior Olympics in the decathlon, winning third place in the United States and setting an all-time record of 17 of 20 baskets in the free throw event.

He moved to Amarillo in 1938, where he met and married Alice M. Dover on July 21, 1940. They celebrated their 65th anniversary this year.

Mr. Allison served in the Navy from September 1943 to November 1945. He worked in the auto parts business, retiring in 1973.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Allison; and an infant son, Jack Jr. in 1942.

Survivors include his wife; three nieces, Marian Daniel of Amarillo, Mardi Lusby of Oklahoma City and Betty Cook of Independence, Mo.; a nephew, Dover Amos of Amarillo; two great-nephews; and three great-nieces.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
