T. P. Cowles was born in Delaware co,Ohio,in 1842;moved to Steuben co,Indiana,in 1855; thene to St Joseph co,Mich,in 1864, where he married Miss Ursul Engle,by whom he has two children,a son and daughter. in 1871 he moved into Muskegon co, and settled on section 14 of Laketon, where he engaged largely in all departments of farming and furit growing. obituarie; Laketon pioneer taken by death Talmidge P.Cowles,aged 77,was prominent in school affairs---Talmadge P. (Tim)Cowles,a pioneer,farmer,township clerk. school board director and mail carrier of Laketon township, died Sunday morning at his farm residence after a four-weeks illness at the age of 77 years. In his death his acquaintances saw the passing of one of the most picturesque characters in the pioneer history of Muskegon county, and of a man who has given years to the service of the community in which he lived. Mr. Cowles was born in Delaware county,Ohio he came to Burr Oak, Mich,and was there married to Mrs Ursula Engle in 1864. In 1870 the family moved to Muskegon co,settling on the farm that has been the family home for 18 years. Mr Cowles acted as township clerk of Laketon township. he assisted in erecting the first school house of Laketon district no.3,and has been director of the board ever since it was organized. For 20 years he owned a milk route and was also a mail carrier to Green Creek for a number of years. He was a charter member of the Laketon Grange and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Surviving relatives of Mr. Cowles are his widow,one son James Cowles of Laketon township, two grand-children,John H Barre of Muskegon and Mrs. Herbert Munson of Laketon, and seven great-grand-children. He also leaves five sisters, Mrs Minnie L Burns and Mrs Emeline King of Laketon, Mrs N.J. O'Neil of Helena Arkansas, Mrs Ester Jenkins of Burr Oak, and Mrs J.G. Williams of Kingston,Washington. The funeral service will be at 10 o"clock Thursday morning from the Gleaners Hall in Laketon township,Rev.J.P.Durham,pastor of the North Muskegon M.E. Church,officiating. Burial will be in Laketon Cemetery. (Bear Lake Cemetery) In 1850 Census he lived with his aunt Susanna Cowles Crooks in Ohio.
