Shawnee resident, Preston Abbott, 88, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 20, at his home.
He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Ada, to Noah Lee Abbott and Mary Elizabeth (Corvin) Abbott.
He was married to Georgia Wornock in December of 1938 in Seminole.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in France and Germany and received the Purple Heart as well as other decorations. Preston had worked in the oil and gas pipeline business but spent 35 years with Independent Tank Co. in Seminole as a welder. He was a member of D.A.V. and Oak Park Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Mable Abbott; two brothers, Frank and Claude Abbott; one sister, Marie Shaw, and one grandson Jeff Bise.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Abbott of the home; four children, Lavon Sanders and Kenneth of Shawnee, Joyce Smith of Tulsa, Mary Bise and Kenneth of Achille, and David Abbott and Elaine of Tecumseh; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Estell Kruger of Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Oak Park Church of God with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.
