Ormond D. Hayes, 55, of 68 Machigonne St., died unexpectedly Tuesday in a local hospital. He was a stockman at E. Corey & Co. for 33 years and was active in Masonic affairs.

Mr. Hayes was born in North Yarmouth April 9, 1908, son of Mrs. Minnie Hayes Searles and the late George H. Hayes. He graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1927.

He was a member of Central Square Baptist Church; Deering Lodge, AF&AM; Mount Sinai Chapter, RAM; Portland Council R&SM; St. Albans Commandery, Knights of Templar; Kora Shrine, Lewiston; Portland Kora Shrine Club; Lewiston & Auburn Shrine Club; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Portland; Cumberland County Recreation Committee; Order of Amaranth and Deering Chapter OES.

Besides his mother and his widow, the former Isabelle Sawyer, he leaves three brothers, George H. Hayes, Cumberland Center; Frank B. Hayes, Portland; and John L. Hayes, Norwalk, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at 749 Congress St. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery, Gray.
