Elias Albert Doerr, 90, Murphysboro, died Wed., Aug. 10, 1983, in Jackson County Nursing Home.
A retired pharmacist, he opened his first drug store in Vergennes in 1912. After spending some time in the coal mining business with the Murphysboro Mining Co., he opened another drug store at 1605 Walnut St. in Murphysboro on Dec. 23, 1925. In 1927 he opened a drug store at 14th and Walnut St. He retired Nov. 15, 1954.
Mr. Doerr attended Southern Illinois Normal University in Carbondale, and was a graduate of Capital College of Pharmacy in Denver, Colo.
He taught school at Imhoff and Mount Joy, and was principal in Vergennes.
He was a member of the AF&AM, Ainad Shrine, Consistory White Shrine, BPOE 572, the Eagles and the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce. He also was past president of the Murphysboro Lions Club. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Doerr was born April 1, 1893, in Madison County, to Henry and Mary Isenberg Doerr.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Anna Herd of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Jessie O. Doerr of San Diego, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Five brothers, two sisters, one half-brother and one half-sister preceded him in death.
