YOUNG Robert E. Young, 81, of Port Royal, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, in Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Born in Penola, he was the widower of Thelma Young and had retired as an electrical inspector at NSWC after 30 years of service. He was a WWII Navy veteran and had the distinction of accompanying Admiral Richard E. Byrd to the South Pole in 1947 aboard the USS Mount Olympus. Survivors include his daughter,of Fredericksburg; his brother,of Richmond; and his granddaughter, He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lee Young. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Rev. Dwight C. Storke officiating. Burial, with Navy honors, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday morning one hour prior to the service.
