Modesto Edward "Ed" Montoya, 83, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Ogden Regional Hospital.
He was born August 27, 1930 in Del Norte, Colorado to Tito and Espironza Chavez Montoya. He was raised and educated in Del Norte. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Ed joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served his country for 20 years. He was a Boatswain's Mate during the Korean War, and he traveled the world during his military service. He was a Green Beret in the 19th Special Forces and he retired from the military with 20 years of service. After retiring from service, he was employed at Hill Air Force Base. He was a pneudraulics landing gear supervisor and retired in 1985 with 37 years of service.
On May 6, 1991, Ed married Judy Ipsen in Las Vegas, Nevada. He and Judy traveled to Yuma, Arizona for the winter, and they spent the summers at Pinion Ridge with their family. Ed loved tinkering in the yard, going to yard sales, hunting and fishing.
Ed is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Albert (Kelly) Montoya, South Weber; Duane Montoya, West Haven; Russ (Debbie) Gregory, Scottsville, KY; daughters, Julie (Brad) Nelson, Plain City; Cindy (Brad) Hanson, Plain City; Penny Ellis, Ogden; Anna Guzman, Riverdale; Nancy Wright, Sacramento, CA; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mae Medina, Monte Vista, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Laura, a son, Eddie, a granddaughter, Kristen, his brothers, Albert and Lee, and sisters, Stella and Sarah. Funeral services will be held Friday October 4th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family will meet friends at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the service.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
