Ole Nilsen Broten's first wife was his first cousin also.

Ole's father was the son of Nils Olsen (Stavn) Broten. Gunhild Halvorsdatter "Julia" Braaten was the daughter of Halvor Olsen (Stavn) Braaten. Nils and Halvor were brothers.

Ole's second wife was Cecelia Johnsdatter Howe. They were married in 1898 and the marriage was annulled in 1902.
