The following is from the funeral records of the Dr. Rev. William Richard Persons, Methodist minister serving the communities of Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.

Funeral obituary; Mark S. Beatie was born in Salt Lake City on September 23, 1873, the son of Hamdon Sidney Beatie and his wife, Helen Clawson Beatie. He received his education in Salt Lake City and was baptized in the Latter Day Saints Church as a child of eight. About 1900 he went to Winter Quarters where he managed that community store for several years. It was at Clean Creek that he married Sarah Johnstone in 1902. Returning to Salt Lake City about 1907, Mr. Beatie was successively employed in a downtown cigar store, with Walker Brothers store and with Sears Roebuck and Company until his retirement in 1939. Mrs. Beatie preceded her husband in death in June, 1939.
On November 11, 1953, Mr. Beatie departed this life in a Salt Lake City hospital. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Hugh S. Beatie, of Salt Lake City, Harold W. Beatie of South Gate, California, Edward J. Beatie of Ogden, Utah, John H. Beatie and Walter R. BEatie of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Charles Mason of Redding, Cal. A half-brother, Will Beatie of Salt Lake City, and a half sister, Mrs. Florence Thatcher of Logan, also survive. {Transcribed by Mark D. Persons]
