Jack C. Reed, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born March 17, 1928 in Lake City, Iowa, the son of Harry and Ruth (Sylvester) Reed. He married Donnita F. Seeden December 10, 1950 at Lanesboro, Iowa. Jack graduated from Lohrville High School in 1946 and Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), receiving his BA in 1954 and MA in 1957 in Business Education. In 1976 he received his Ed.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jack served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1951 to 1953.

During his teaching career, he taught at Greene Co. Country School; Yetter, Iowa Elementary; Rinard, Iowa Junior High; Storm Lake, Iowa Junior/Senior High; Rochester, MN Junior College and spent his last 25 years as an Associate Professor in the UNI College of Business, until his retirement in 1990. From 1990 to 2000, he was employed part time by UNI Continuing Education Department, where he coordinated conferences, including Elderhostel.

He was active in many professional Business Education organizations at local, state, and national levels, and received numerous awards for outstanding achievement and leadership in the field of Business Education.

He is survived by his wife, Donnita Reed, of Cedar Falls; daughter, Jana Flessner, of Derby, Kansas; three sons, Randal (Lisa) Reed of Wausau, Wisconsin, Ronald Reed of Mill Creek, Washington and Gary Reed of Lawrence, Kansas; five grandchildren, Andrea (Matt) Vogelman, Nick Flessner, Cathryn Reed, Christopher Reed, and Zakary Reed, and one sister-in-law, Agnes Reed, of Sioux City, Iowa.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dennis Reed and one daughter-in-law, SuZane Reed.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with inurnment at Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro, Iowa, at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
