Clifford Eugene Harper, SR, was born on the family farm near Lakota, ND on July 10, 1922 to Richard J. Harper and Lena (Schinedle) Harper. He was born into a large family of ten sons and one daughter. Cliff was the eighth son born and the eighth son to pass away in the family.

Cliff attended high school in Lakota until his junior year, and then at the age of 16 decided to explore the country. His travels took him to Oklahoma where he worked on a farm/ranch and sawmill. In the spring of 1939, he came to Westhope, ND; where he worked for a local farmer during the summer and in 1939 started school. After graduating from High School in 1941, Cliff moved to California and worked for Consolidated Aircraft. Later enlisting in the Navy.

While living in Westhope, Cliff had met and dated Goldie Trimble. In the winter of 1941 she moved to San Diego, CA; and Dec 31, 1941 they were married.

After Cliff was discharged from the Navy they settled in Westhope, ND where he had a couple of different jobs. From 1948 until 1958 he was a partner in Meddaugh's Hardware. In 1958 Cliff began his job with the United States Air Force as a civilian employee at the Minot Air Force Base and later, at the John Moses Air Force Hospital in Minot, ND. After 20 years of working as a civil servant, Cliff retired in 1978.

They spent their retirement years between Arizona in the winter months; Westhope and Lake Metigoshe (where they had a cabin) in the summer.

Cliff and Goldie were married 67 years and raised three children; Cathi, Clifford (Kip) Jr., and Craig.
