Virginia J. Garland, age 92, of Monroe died on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on July 12, 1921 in rural Browntown, the daughter of John and Nellie (Kundert) Lynch. She was a 1939 graduate of Lena-Winslow High School and Madison Business College.

Virginia and Harvle H. Garland were married in 1942.

She was a secretary at St. John's UCC, and for the Monroe Arts and Activity Center, and also for the Swiss Colony. Virginia was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Wayne (Dana) Garland of Stoughton; daughters, Ruth Harp of Monroe, Kathryn Spurgeon of NYC, and Rachel Garland of the Twin Cities. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her daughters; Judy Garland, Sally Rear, and Victoria Garland in infancy; brother, Delbert Lynch, and sister, Gertrude Ayres

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr. and 18th Ave., Monroe, with Pastor Matthew Spoonhour of First Baptist Church of Monroe officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
