Joseph Collins Cornelison, son of Edward and Ann Cornelison, was born at Spponsville, Ky., June 2d, 1852 and passed from this life August 23rd, 1923, at the age of seventy-one years, two months and twenty-one days.

His boyhood days were spent in the state of his birth. When a young man he came west with his parents and only sister to Illinois, where they resided on a farm near Bloomington for two years, moving from thence to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he lived the remaining days of his life.

On September 23rd, 1873, he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret West. To this union were born six children - F. C. Cornelison, Mrs. J. D. Dille and Mrs. C. H. Denhart, all of Benton, Iowa; C. J. Cornelison, of Creston, Iowa and G. W. Cornelison, of Diagonal, Iowa. One daughter Millie, passed away at the tender age of one year.

His affectionate wife preceded him in death February 16th, 1912.

He was again united in marriage to Eliza Green, of Hatfield, Mo., in May, 1913.

In 1915 they moved from the farm near Benton to Mount Ayr, where they lived until his second wife was taken, July 9, 1923.

Joseph Cornelison was a man who sought to make cheerfulness, friendliness and generosity the outstanding traits of his life. The stranger was always welcome within his gates and he was ever ready to give of his means to the poor and needy.

He leaves to mourn his death three sons, two daughters, fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a great number of other relatives and friends.
