William T. Lamme was born in Bourbon Co., KY when it was still part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was a son of Robert Lamme of Augusta County, Virginia.

William served in the War of 1812 and as an officer in The Missouri Rangers under Nathan Boone. He received a Spanish Land Grant at La Charette, Spanish Louisiana in 1807 near present-day Marthasville, MO. He put aside an area of his farm to be used as a family cemetery and he was the first to be buried in it.
