Don Hutchison passed away peacefully in Bellevue, WA on September 22, 2013 after a brief illness. Don, 90, was born March 13, 1923 in Seattle, WA to Leon McVance and Lula Pearl (Shaffner) Hutchison.

In 1945 he married Edna Erline Smith, his wife of 61 years and they set up residence in Seattle and later, west Seattle.

In 1962 they moved to Edmonds where they lived until her passing in 2007.

Don attended Lincoln High School in Seattle before enlisting in the US Navy during WWII. He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946 and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class.

Don retired in 1978 after a career with the City of Seattle Parks Department.

He was an avid sports fan and rarely missed the opportunity to watch a Mariners or Seahawks game. Don also enjoyed woodworking, furniture refinishing, ballroom dancing and music from the Big Band Era.

He was a Mason and a member of Alki Lodge No. 152.

Don is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Polly) and their sons, Vance and Luke of Carnation. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn, of Sedro-Wooley and her sons, Michael of Burlington and Robert of Sedro-Wooley; and four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Devon and Alyssa. He is preceded in death by his son, Ralph, who passed away in 2006.

The family would like to thank the staff of Merrill Gardens in Monroe, where Don lived since 2009, for their kindness, care and compassion. A military gravesite service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Abbey View Memorial Park ~ 3601 Alaska Road ~ Brier, WA 98036.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Snoqualmie Valley Senior Center in Carnation, WA are greatly appreciated.
