Hollidaysburg was famous for its railroad repair facilities. John Watson Baker, went to work for the railroad at a young age, becoming a machinist. His work took him to Gnadenhutten, Ohio, which was dubbed the "Hollidaysburg of Ohio" because of its large railroad repair facility. There he met Mariah Sanders, and they married July 31, 1883, in Gnadenhutten, Tuscarawas Co, Ohio. Not happy with their birth names, she called herself "Mary" and her husband "Charles", thus the names on the tombstone. His work soon took him to Meadville, PA, where they had 3 children and a 4th on the way. He was working at the NYPANO roundhouse near Pittsburgh and on the way home when he was struck and killed by a locomotive at Foxburg. He was walking down the center of the track when he heard a train coming, so moved over to the other track where he was struck by a locomotive backing up. He was buried at Greendale Cemetery in Meadville. Story continued on Mary M. Baker memorial.
