He was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Marengo, to C. H. and Mary (Brainard) Simons. On Jan. 19, 1935, in Dixon, he married Gertrude H. Vallem.
He was a 1931 graduate of Marengo High School and was an elder at the United Church of Christ in Garden Prairie. He farmed in Marengo for 61 years, worked for Auto-Lite, and was a woodworker, mechanic and world traveler.
He is survived by his wife of Marengo; three sons, Wayne (Diane) Simons and Kenneth (Sue) Simons, both of Marengo, and David Simons of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two daughters, Rosalee (Richard) Kolberg of Pleasanton, Calif., and Kathleen (Joe) Lorenzen of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roland, Forrest and Harry; and a daugher, Dolores Cernak.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Highway, Marengo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kristine Delmore officiating.
Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Northeaster Illinois.
