"Van" came to Canada from Holland in 1913, representing a Dutch Mortgage company. Here he met Eleanor Tyson, and five years later they were married. They travelled extensively in Europe, after which, Van was transferred to Winnipeg as manager of the company which he served for 12 years. Two little girls joined the family while there, Hazel and Lorna. In 1934, Van, who always wished to be actively involed in agriculture, bought the family's homestead and farmed until his death in Jan 1960.
