Redding (Shasta Co.). January 9
Dan DeForest, an old-timer on Oak Run, perished in the snow Saturday evening between Round Mountain and L. W. Ellis' place on Oak Run. DeForest made his home at the Ellis place.
DeForest went to Round Mountain with a horse Saturday and started home with the animal laden with three sacks of grain. The horse turned up unattended at the Ellis place in the evening. Ellis and L. Batton, divining that something had happened to DeForest, started out to hunt for him. They found his body in a foot of snow on Mill Creek, a tributary of Cow Creek, three miles from home.
The tracks in the snow indicated that DeForest had dropped dead and the horse had continued on its way. There was no indication of struggle. The snow was only a foot deep and the night was not cold enough to have caused him to freeze to death.
DeForest was 65. He was the father of Mrs. Charles W. Smith of Winthrop. Another daughter, Mrs Luther Manley, lives in Richmond. His former wife, Mrs Martha E DeForest, lives with her daughter in Winthrop.

Gravesite Details
I do not have proof positive that Daniel is buried in this cemetery. His wife is buried here and it is close to where he died. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
