ARCOLA -- Betty Jo Arrol, 73, of Arcola died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 2, 1995) in her residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Arcola Presbyterian Church, 311 E. Jefferson St., with the Rev. Donald Winch officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Memorials: Arcola Presbyterian Church, the Hospice of Lincolnland or donor's choice.
Mrs. Arrol was born in Kokomo, Ind., on Jan. 22, 1922, the daughter of Ennis Cleo and Elsie Marie Kerby Hancock. She graduated from Kokomo, Ind., high school with a class rank of 12 out of a class of 343. In July 1948 she and her husband moved to Arcola after they purchased the drug store from L.G. Engle. Mrs. Arrol was a pharmacy technician as well as a bookkeeper and clerk for the Arrol Drug Store. She served on the Arcola School's Citizen Advisory Council and was a member of the PTA. She participated in many fund-raisers, blood drives, etc. Mrs. Arrol was president of her bowling league. On July 1, 1984, the Arrols sold their drug store to Larry Bushu. Betty and Bob were honored by the city of Arcola by being selected the Grand Marshals of the 1984 Broomcorn Festival. Reading and golf were more intense hobbies after retirement. Betty was self-educated and read several newspapers. She was very knowledgeable in current affairs and other news related items. She was a Deacon and member of the Arcola Presbyteran Church. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert "Bob" Norman Arrol on Nov. 26, 1938 in Westfield, Ind.
Surviving are her husband, son, Dr. Robert N. of Arcola; two granddaughters; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; brother, James Robert Hancock of Kokomo, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one grandson, Scott Kerby Arrol.
